Marilyn Louella (Conyer) Funes

September 27, 1925 — February 8, 2015

Marilyn Louella Funes, of Havelock, died peacefully on Feb 8 at the age of 89, at Carolina East Medical Center surrounded by family.

Services will be held at 2:00pm, Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Munden Funeral Home, Morehead City.

She was born September 27, 1925 in Bush, Louisiana. She was a lady in every sense of the word and was tough as nails, but yet tender when her girls needed her to be. She was warm and welcoming to strangers but no one took her kindness for weakness. Louella was fiercely protective of her family. Throughout their travels, Louella honed her skills as a banker. She would finish her banking career at 1st Citizens Bank in Havelock NC retiring after 35 years as a Branch Operations Officer.

Throughout the years, Louella became the pillar of strength for her family and friends. She defined what a Marine wife, mother and grandmother should be. She was strong, passionate, tough but caring. Above all, she was a lady we all looked up to.

Louella is survived by two daughters, Sandra Funes Loner and husband John of Havelock, Sue Funes Sutton and Alfred Gray of Havelock; Five grandchildren, Brandy Loner and Shannon of Colorado, MAJ Shane Brumfield and wife Karen of Virginia, Chad Sutton and wife Laura of Havelock, SFC Casey Sutton and wife Misty of Kentucky, Jim Loner and wife Ann of Gardner; twelve Great Grandchildren, Keyton, Nathan, Kyle, Aidan, Tyler, Samantha, Carleigh, Dylan, Levi, Emma, Elijah, Ezra.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Rene Funes.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Wounded Warrior Project 4200Morganton Rd. Suite 300 Fayetteville, NC 28314.
