Marie Ebron Pollard, 93, of Newport, passed away Monday, February 18, 2019 at her home.
Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2019, at Newport Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park.
Sam and Marie were married in a double ring ceremony with Monroe and Marie Garner at the Methodist parsonage in 1944. They shared 63 years together and their love never wavered.
Mrs. Pollard worked at the Havelock Belk’s in the early 1960’s when the store opened. When the store closed, she transferred to the Morehead City location where she retired from. For a portion of that time she was a buyer for the children’s department.
Mrs. Pollard was a long-time children’s Sunday school teacher at Newport Baptist Church and continued at McCotter Boulevard Baptist Church. Due to health reasons, she returned to Newport Baptist. Sam and Marie were one of the many couples commissioned from Newport Baptist Church to start a mission in Havelock, which is now McCotter Boulevard Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Cannady of Mt. Juliet, TN and Sara Fredricks and husband Dave of Newport; son, Sam Pollard, Jr. of Newport; sister, Shirley Taylor and husband George, Jr. of Newport; grandchildren, Sharon Rector and husband Brian, Shelia Crockett, David Fredricks and wife Alissa and Robert Fredricks; and great-grandchildren, Jacob, Sam, Isabella, Natalie and Alexis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Lee Pollard, Sr.; parents, Nathaniel and Ella Ebron; sister, Sybil Cottle; and brothers, Johnny Ebron and Alfred Ebron.
Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2019, at Newport Baptist Church.
Flowers are welcome, or memorial donations may be made to the Newport Baptist Building Fund at P.O. Box 1330, Newport, NC 28570.
