Marie Newsome, 89, of Morehead City, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at the Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Glad Tidings Church in Morehead City, officiated by Rev. Tim Marriner. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Morehead City.

Marie was born in Beaufort, NC on June 9, 1928 to the late Harriet O’Dera “Dera” Ipock Noe and Henry Webster Noe of Beaufort, NC.

Marie was a lifetime charter member of Glad Tidings Pentecostal Holiness Church of Morehead City where was heavily involved in the church music ministry as a soloist and choir member. She also sang in a trio with her late sister, Alena L. Johnson and the late Shirly Barts Pollard when the church was located at 19th and Bridges Street in Morehead City.   This trio sang for nearly 30 years for many local events and church services. In the early 40’s, she worked alongside her husband, Buck, former police officer and constable with the Morehead City Police Department as a surety bondsman.  Later, she retired as a seamstress from the former Blue Bell Corporation of Morehead City.

She is survived by her only grandchild, Kimberly D. Newsome of the home; great-grandson, James Michael Head of the home; great-granddaughter, Heather Head of Aynor, SC; nieces, Sharon L. Manning and husband Tim of Newport, Judith L. Mercer and husband Edward of Dunn, Janet L. Hill of Newport; nephews, Kerry Johnson of Morehead City, Angel Acevedo of Morehead City, Eddie Lewis and wife Madalene of Newport; sister-in-law, Wanda Newsome of Coalmont, TN; 5 great-great grandchildren; along with several great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Quandrel Lee “Buck” Newsome; daughter, Sandra Lee Newsome; son, James W. Newsome; sisters and brothers-in-law, Alena Johnson and husband Jimmy, Dera Lewis and husband Robert Edward, Sr., Catherine Suzanne “Sue” Taylor and husband Warren; great-granddaughter, Britni H. Heimbach; niece, Patricia L. Acevedo;

Family will see friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, August 4, 2017 at Munden Funeral Home. The family will also receive visitors and friends at 201 Old Murdoch Road Apt. A2, Newport, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Glad Tidings Pentecostal Holiness Church  (Music Department or Building Fund) at 4621 Country Club Rd, Morehead City, NC 28557.

The family is grateful for the wonderful care and compassion give to her by the Crystal Coast Hospice House of Newport, NC.
