Margaret “Peggy” June Lehman Hammond, 77, of Newport, went home to be with her Lord on March 10, 2022.
Margaret was born on August 17, 1944, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. She fell in love with John Hammond, married him either on December 1 or 3 (family joke), and moved to North Carolina in the 60’s. She was a loving mother of three handfuls, Lenny, John Jr., and Sammy.
She was famous around these parts for having the first licensed daycare in Newport. Margaret also retired from Cherry Point as an Aircraft Upholster. After retirement, she worked alongside her husband at Newport Motor Company for many years.
Margaret was known to have an incredibly generous heart. She would make Christmas the most magical time for her family and friends, and any children who needed extra love. No one will ever be able to replace her Thanksgiving spread, or Easter feast each year.
She is survived by her sons, Lenny (Brandi) and Sammy (Staci); grandchildren, JD (Amanda), Chris, Ashley, Brittany, Emileigh, Samuel Jr.; and great granddaughter, Reagan. She also has several nieces and nephews in the area and around the country.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, LC and June Lehman; siblings, Frank and Nancy; husband and love of her life, John; and her son, John Jr.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at Amariah Garner Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Gary Carroll. In lieu of a visitation, the family invites you to come by Newport Motor Company, or our house, to share stories and memories as you are able.
The family would like to thank the Crystal Coast Hospice House for their love and care over the past few months.
