Margaret Swindell Walrath, 71, of Newport, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 16, 2017 at home with her family by her side.

Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Glad Tidings Church with Pastor Tim Marriner and Pastor Dennis Evans officiating. Interment will follow at Amariah Garner Cemetery.

Margaret was born on September 6, 1946 to the late Clifton and Irene Glover. She was a loving wife, mother, step-mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a loving caregiver and friend to all who passed through her life and home. She loved her God and was a member of Glad Tidings Church for over 40 years where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, worked in the nursery, Door Greater and served on many ministries. Margaret had a true loving and servants heart. Margaret loved to drive and spend time on the road as can be seen by her jobs delivering newspapers, sold Avon and Rainbow Vacuum Cleaners, Greeting Card Merchandise and delivered auto parts for Atlantic Auto Parts.

The family extends special gratitude and appreciation to James and Jean Doshier for their friendship, love, support, help and laughter that helped to keep Margaret smiling, even during challenging times. They would also like to thank the team of awesome caregivers from the Carteret Home Health and Hospice that helped keep Margaret well cared for.

Margaret is survived by her husband of 15½ years, Walter Walrath of the home; sons, Bryan Swindell and Robin of Rockmont, GA; Scottie Swindell and wife Jamie of Newport; daughters, Angela Swindell of Morehead City, Alison Huckaby and husband Mike of Newport; step-daughters, Pauline Foster of Hornell, NY, Patricia Walrath of Minneapolis, MN; step-son, Peter Walrath and wife Dawn of Newport; sister, Patricia Glover Ipock of Morehead City; 18 grandchildren and 21/2 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband of 35 years Earl Swindell, father, Clifton Glover, mother, Irene Southern, sisters, Linda Lee and Ramona Southern and grandson, Terrell Tooley.

The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 pm Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City.
