Margaret (Mot) Thomas Goetz, 85, of Havelock, formerly of Newport, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Carteret Health Care.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at St. James United Methodist Church.
Born July 24th, 1930 in Rock Hill, SC, Margaret and her parents moved to Havelock, NC in 1943 and then to Newport, NC in 1953. Margaret graduated from Newport Consolidated High School in 1947. She attended Winthrop Women’s College and later became employed at Cherry Point, NC with Navy Supply. In 1957, Margaret and Philip (Ted) Goetz were married at the MCAS Cherry Point Chapel. The Marine Corps moved Margaret, Ted and their 3 daughters around the globe for several years until settling back in Newport in 1969. Margaret was a very devoted wife and mother and after the children were grown, she returned to Civil Service, retiring in 1995. She enjoyed many hobbies including singing, gardening, cooking, bowling with Ted, their dear friends Buck and Mary Louise Allen and playing bridge as often as possible.
She is survived by the love of her life, husband Philip Theodore (Ted) Goetz, together for almost 60 years; 3 daughters, Meg Waser and husband Dave of Holly Springs, NC, Donna Goetz of Sea Level, NC and Sonya Lewis and husband Tommy of Newport, NC; 4 grandchildren, Joshua Lewis, MollyBeth Lewis, Zachary Waser and Andrew Waser.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Guy and Cora Gertrude Wade Thomas.
