Mann "J.R." Alfonso Pollock Jr.

Mann “J.R.” Alfonso Pollock Jr., 84, of Newport, passed away Friday, June 28­, 2019, at Carteret Health Care.

A Celebration Service will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, July 13,2019 at Holly Springs Free Will Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Mitchell Parker. Following the service, friends are cordially invited to join the family for food and refreshments.

J.R. retired from the City of Jamestown, NY after 26 years of faithful service. He was a kind and caring man who felt strongly about giving back to his community. One of the ways he did so was through volunteering with the veterans. J.R. was also known for his confidence and strength and was commended for an incident where he stopped an armed gunman. He was consequently injured in the process, but his heroic actions were a testimony to his character. J.R. enjoyed the outdoors, whether he was hunting, fishing or playing golf.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carol Pollock of the home; daughters, Carol Lee Hayon of Boston, MA and Kathy Lamour of Miami, FL; sons, Al Pollock of Arapahoe, NC and Scott Pollock of Newport, NC; sister, Hilda Pollock Hill Garner of Dunn, NC; brothers,  William Washington “Bill” Pollock and wife Alice of Newport, NC and Harold Roger Pollock and wife Linda of Newport, NC; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mann and Jessie Waters; son, Eric Bartsch, sisters, Margaret Mills, Oleta Bunch, Julia Dickenson; and brothers, Albert Pollock and Arthur Pollock.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Saturday, July 13,2019 at Holly Springs Free Will Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Carteret Health Care Cancer Center (Raab Clinic) at 3500 Arendell St., Morehead City, NC 28557.
