Manly Murphy

Rev. Manly E. Murphy, 85, of Morehead City, died Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at Harborview Health Care Center.
Rev. Murphy was born in Marshallberg on December 24, 1924, the son of Will and Caroline Murphy. He was employed for 29 years at Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, VA. He served as pastor of several churches in North Carolina and Virginia and was a current member of First Baptist Church of Beaufort.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday at First Baptist Church in Beaufort with the Rev. Michael Fields and the Rev. Doug Williams officiating.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lee Allen Murphy of the home; a daughter, Veronica Murphy Heidy and husband Sam of Morehead City; two sons, Nelson Murphy and wife Nancy of Virginia Beach, VA and Charles Spivey and wife Helen of Richmond, VA; brother, Lester Murphy and wife Jean of Marshallberg; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Evelyn Chadwick, Geraldine Fulcher, Miriam Mason, and Vida Lewis, and brother, Clifford Murphy.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
