Malcolm Beard

Malcolm Leroy Beard, 86, of Newport, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, March 25, 2018 after a brief stay at Crystal Coast Hospice House.

His service is at 2:00 pm Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Munden Funeral Home Chapel in Morehead City with Chaplain Rick Brooks officiating.

Born May 16, 1931, in Kinston, N.C. of the late Joseph and Rosalee Beard. Mr. Beard was a member for 50 plus years of Masonic Lodge 292, of Tampa, Florida, and was employed for 20 years with U.S. Phosphoric. Mr. Beard developed a life long interest in body building and while living in Tampa won the title of “Mr. Tampa” in body building in his 30’s.

After moving back to N.C. Mr. Beard worked for 20 years with Crown Oil Company and then the Carteret County Senior Center. Mr. Beard enjoyed his hobby of Magic, teaching and performing, especially to children.

Mr. Beard was a much beloved son, husband, and Father. Those left behind to cherish Mr. Beard’s memory are his wife of 44 years, Doris Beard of Newport; his children, Richard Beard and wife Amy, James Beard and wife Jo Anna, Rebecca Knight and husband William all of Florida, Joshua Beard of Georgia, William Beard of Kinston, and Harley Beard of the home; two brothers, Ray and Buddy Beard of Kinston; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Beard was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Beard, Jr.
