Major L. Jarman, Sr., 70, of Beaufort, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2010 at his home.
A visitation was held Tuesday evening at Munden Funeral Home. Services followed at Tuttles Grove United Methodist Church on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at 11:00 am., officiated by the Rev. Michael Nelson. Graveside military honors were presented at Gethsemane Memorial Park.
Major was born December 3, 1939 in Beaufort, NC. A life-long Seadog, Class of 1958, former Marine and retiree of NADEP at Cherry Point MCAS, he was also a member of Tuttles Grove United Methodist Church having served as an Usher, and Trustee and Building Committee member. Major served for many years as Assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 201. During his tenure as Assistant Scout Master, he completed the Order of the Arrow and Wood Badge training. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Olive Page Jarman; two children, Major L. Jarman Jr. of Beaufort, and Alice Jarman Powell and her husband John-David Powell of Winterville, NC; 3 grandchildren, Major Lee ?Little Buddy? Jarman III, Jacob-Christopher Powell and Alyssa Brooke Powell; sister, Dorothy Jarman Piner and her husband James I. Piner, Sr. of Beaufort, brother Johnny R. Jarman and his wife Rebecca of Hertford, NC.
He was preceded in death by his parents Benjamin F. and Eleanor L. Jarman; and brother Bennie E. Jarman.
The family received friends at home after the service and burial. Flowers are welcome, or memorials may be made to Tuttles Grove United Methodist Church Building Fund, PO Box 2007, Beaufort 28516, or Hospice of Carteret County, PO Drawer 1619, Morehead City, NC 28557.
