Macy Kittrell Fitzgerald Fusaro, 99, of Morehead City, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Carteret Health Care.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm Sunday, October 16, 2016 at Gethsemane Memorial Park with Pastor Tim Havlicek officiating.

Macy was born in Morehead City and was one of fourteen children of T.W & Viola Kittrell.  She moved to Charlotte in 1935 to attend Queens college on an academic scholarship, where she graduated in 1938 and married B.H. Fitzgerald.  Together they ran Fitzgerald’s Seafood Market and Catering Service for twenty years before selling it to Holly Farms in 1972.  During that time they fed thousands including many local and national celebrities including Presidents Gerald Ford, Richard Nixon and campaigning John and Jackie Kennedy.  The largest single sit down dinner served was for 3,500 but they also fed 10,000 at buffet or picnic type events.  Her favorite event was the reception following the Billy Graham-Richard Nixon ceremony at the Charlotte Coliseum in the fall of 1971.  Macy took great pride in her recipes and having them published in the newspaper.  She entered competitions and won several awards.

Macy was very active in First Baptist Church, Charlotte, and worked for the Southern Baptist Convention, teaching others to be leaders.  She taught Sunday school, Bible Study, and Vacation Bible School and sang in the choir.  Besides working, raising a family and taking classes at the local community college she did some modeling.

After retiring Macy and Fitz spent half their time in Morehead City boating, fishing, biking and visiting with the many remaining family members.  She also enjoyed trips to California to visit her daughter Kitty and her family and trips to South Carolina to visit her son Herb and his family.

In 1997 Macy moved to Morehead City to live full time and be closer to the Kittrell family members.  After meeting John Fusaro in 1998 Macy joined him in membership at First Presbyterian Church.  On 1/22/99 she married John and enjoyed 13 years with him before his death in 2012.

Macy is survived by her daughter, Kitty Fitzgerald Kingma and her husband Dirk; daughter in law, Sylvia Fitzgerald Mendenhall; step daughters, Maggie Fusaro and BJ Fusaro Brondoli; many grandkids and great grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, B.H. “Fitz” Fitzgerald, Sr.; and second husband, John Fusaro; son, B.H. “Herb” Fitzgerald, Jr.; and all thirteen of her siblings.
