Gunnery Sergeant, Lynn Bryan Stanton, USMC (Retired), 82, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024, at his home.
Lynn was born on March 27, 1941, in Geneva, New York, to the late Jennings and Thelma Stanton. A former Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, he was a proud veteran who retired after 20 dedicated years of service.
Following his military service, Lynn dedicated himself to his role with the Gold Plate Program at NADEP, where his expertise and meticulous attention to detail were evident. After two decades of service, Lynn retired, but his passion for craftsmanship never waned. He was a skilled carpenter, having built his own house and creating beautiful birdhouses and windmills in his spare time.
Lynn had a love for the outdoors, often spending his days fishing, clamming, and boating. A devoted family man, he cherished moments with his family and delighted in taking his grandchildren to the sandbars.
Lynn was an avid sports fan, particularly enjoying March Madness and football. He was thrilled to have attended two NFL games watching Tampa Bay Buccaneers playing the Washington Redskins in Florida and also in Washington, DC.
Known for his culinary skills, Lynn enjoyed grilling and relished a good steak or pork chop. At one point, he and his wife owned a small farm where they even had a cow named Ralph. The simple joys in life brought Lynn immense happiness, whether it was mowing the grass or spending time with his loved ones.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife, JoAnn Stanton; daughters, Kelly Stanton Spicer (Paul) of Hedgesville, WV and Allison Elaine Crutchfield (Sonny) of Pittsboro, NC; son, Bryan Charles Stanton (Dawn Nisbet-Stanton) of Raleigh, NC; sister, Linda Wood of Horseheads, NY; grandchildren, JoAnna Burk (Ben), Lauren Spears (Tyler), Patrick Crutchfield, Bryan Orcutt, Samantha Crutchfield, Jackson Stanton, and Jessica Stanton; and great-grandchildren, Enzo Spears, Aiden Burk, Charlotte Burk, and Samuel Burk.
In addition to his parents, Lynn was preceded in death by his sisters, Joyce Cain and Janice Keller; and brothers, Marvin Stanton, and Mervin Stanton.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Crystal Coast Hospice House, P.O. Box 640, Newport, NC 28570.
