Luther "Bill" William Libby

Luther William "Bill" Libby Sr., 75, of Morehead City, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at Carteret General Hospital.

A memorial service will be held 4:00 pm Thursday at Munden Funeral Home Chapel with family friend, Timothy Coleman officiating. A memorial service at a later date will be held at Traveler’s Rest Baptist Church in Spotsylvania County, VA.


Bill was born in San Diego, CA on February 27th, 1938. He was a 1956 graduate of Granby High School (Norfolk, VA) He went on to receive his under graduate from Elon College (Elon College, NC) and later received a Masters of Education from the University of Virginia. (Charlottesville, VA ) Bill taught school and coached just about every high school sport for over 35 years in Moore County, NC, Orange and Spotsylvania Counties in Virginia. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed spending time with family/friends and was known to enjoy being outside in his garden for hours at a time. He should be remembered in the present, not past, for producing a legacy that helped prepare men and women to win graciously and to lose with dignity, not only in the games we play but life in general.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie Libby of the home; two daughters Lori Ann Libby of Fredericksburg, VA, and Debbie Libby McGraw of Norfolk, VA; one son Billy Libby and wife Terri of Spotsylvania, VA; and three grandchildren Libby McGraw, Madison Libby, and Wil Libby.

Visitation will follow the service as friends are leaving.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Spotsylvania High School Athletic Boosters Club, these donations will help aid student athletes in their life development, P.O. Box 1227 Spotsylvania, VA 22553.
