Luther was born on March 3, 1937, in Zebulon, North Carolina, to Luther Bee Long Sr. and Rochelle Strickland Long. Luther's drive and determination led him to excel in his career. Luther proudly served as a N.C. State Trooper for 8 years. After pursuing the family tradition of serving in law enforcement, he then served as a respected Division Manager for Wrangler Jeans. Throughout his life, Luther was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to providing for his family. He made countless sacrifices to ensure their happiness and success. Those closest to him knew his heart overflowed with love and affection for his family.
Luther’s greatest joy in life was his title of “Papa”. He loved nothing more than having his grandkids at Kerr Lake with Nana and Papa, packing the RV, boat, and jet ski so his family could make forever cherished memories.
He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
Those remaining include his daughter-in-law, Karen L. Long and Tom Lawrence of Harkers Island; granddaughters, Kristin Long Steelman and husband Thomas Steelman of Zebulon, Mary Kathryn Long and fiancé Tommy Price of Harkers Island; grandson, Master Police Officer Kenneth 'Reid' Long Jr. and Amanda Beaman of Morehead City; greatgrandchildren, Lakelyn Steelman, Kiera Long, Gracelyn Long, Kailar Beaman, Luna Long, and TJ Price; as well as his dear friend, Ann Hill.
