Luby Gordon Smith

Luby Gordon Smith, 67, of Newport, died Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Croatan Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

A memorial service will be held 3:00 pm Saturday January 25, 2014 at Newport Baptist Church with Dr. Gary Carroll officiating. Followed by USCG honors.

Luby graduated from West Carteret High School in 1964, and served his country in the USCG with stations to include New Orleans, LA and Oregon Inlet, NC. He owned and operated Smith Plumbing, and later AAA Plumbing Services. He retired in 2010.

He is survived by a son Matthew Smith of Atlantic Beach; one brother Stephen Smith of Havelock; and his companion of 11 years Debbie Kolding of Newport.

He is preceded in death by his parents Paul and Estell (Riggs) Smith.

The family will receive friends following the service.
