Lola Vaughn Wagner
Lola Vaughn Wagner, 89, of Morehead City, died Tuesday, December 21, 2010.
Services will be held 11:00 am Thursday, December 23rd at the First United Methodist Church in Morehead City. A private burial will be held before the service at Bayview Cemetery.
Born on June 14, 1921, in Mt. Airy, North Carolina, she was the twelfth of thirteen children of Charles and Lucy Vaughn. She spent her childhood years in Mt. Airy. After graduating from high school, she attended Pfeiffer College. She married Kenneth Wagner in 1945 and moved to Morehead City, where they raised their four children. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was actively involved in her church and community. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church. She was the president of the American Cancer Society in Carteret County for 20 years, before retiring in 1991. She was active in the Republican Party and was a charter member of the Sea and Sound Garden Club. She took great pleasure in caring for others and touched many lives.
Survivors include her daughters, Adrienne Wagner Clark and husband, Lee, of Raleigh; Jeanne Wagner McGlohon of Rocky Mount, and Ellen Wagner Maready of Morehead City, and her son, Kenneth Cole (Casey) Wagner, Jr., of Morehead City. She was “Mimi” to nine grandchildren, Laura Clark Warner and her husband, Mike, of Charlotte, Ashley Clark Campbell and her husband, Kern, of Raleigh, Brian Maready of Wilmington, Kendall Maready of Greenville, Kelley Lola Wagner, and Claire Vaughn McGlohon of Rocky Mount, Cole Wagner, Kristen Wagner, and Caroline Wagner of Morehead City; three great-grandchildren, Avery Campbell, Lindsay Campbell, and Anna Warner. She is also survived by her youngest sister, Cleo Vaughn Winkler, of Mt. Airy, NC.
In addition to her husband of 64 years, Kenneth Cole Wagner, Sr., she was predeceased by her parents; seven sisters; four brothers; and her daughter-in-law, Keli Howell Wagner.
The family will receive friends after the service at the church.
