Lionel Scott, Sr. 78, of Harker's Island, passed away Friday, June 19, 2015 at his home.

A funeral service will be held 3:00 pm Sunday, June 21, 2015  at Refuge Fellowship Chapel with Pastor Manley Rose Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at the Vergie Mae Cemetery, Harkers Island.

He was born September 1, 1936 on Harkers Island, NC to Charlie Thomas and Lila Mae Scott. Lionel joined the U.S Coast Guard in 1953, at the age of 17. He served four years on the Lightship in Cape May, NJ. After leaving the service, He married "the Love of his Life" Sandra Janet Gilgo. They were married for 57 years.

Lionel was a loving husband, father and a friend to all. He was a faithful and devoted Christian for 40 years. While attending the Refuge Fellowship Church he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and also assisted with the construction of the church addition.

He is survived by his wife Sandra Scott of the home; three daughters, Emma Cecilia Noe and friend Jeff Fleenor of Straits,Tina S. Lewis and husband Blake E. Lewis of Gloucester, and April S.Taylor and husband Rusty D.Taylor of Harkers Island; son, Lionel Scott Jr. and wife Pollyanna M. Scott of Morehead City; two sisters, Virginia S. Jones of Harkers Island, and Carolyn S. Styron and husband Clyde of Cedar Island; eight  grandchildren, JJ, Hope, Jason Lionel, Matthew, Laken, Sammi, Cody, and Chandler; 5 step grandchildren, Steven, Crystal, Monica, Bre, and Elijah; nine great-grandchildren, Kristen, Nick, Julianna, Evan, Sissy, Michelle, Bryson, Gage and Adler.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Lila Mae Scott; brother,Dennis Scott; sister,Sheila Dixon and grandson Jarrett Scott.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Church.
