Linda Louise Shirley

Linda Louise “Nana” Shirley, 73, of Newport, passed away Tuesday, June 25­, 2019, at Vidant Medical Center.

Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, 2019, at Munden Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Rob Pate. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park.

Linda was a dedicated employee of the Navy Federal Bank where she worked as a Mortgage Manager. When she retired in 2008, she had over 25 years of service with them. She enjoyed the fellowship of her friends at the Havelock Church of the Nazarene where she was a former member. As a talented baker, she enjoyed creating wonderful treats for her family. In the warmer months, she spent many hours in her garden where she enjoyed the bounty it produced. Linda was a beautiful and strong woman who was generous and loyal. As a true matriarch of her family, her strength held her family together. Linda will be remembered for her willingness to put others before herself and for her humility.

She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Richard C. Shirley of the home; daughters, Tegina Louise Kanupp of Peletier and Donna Fite and husband Randy of Wildwood, Missouri; sons, Brian Keith Cole of Newport and James Louis Shirley and wife Stephanie of Woodlands, Texas; grandchildren, Candi DeShong, Ryan Thomas Burns, Daniel Shawn Burns, Brook Shirley, Olivia Shirley, Jamie Shirley, Stephen Shirley and Andrea Fite; great-grandchildren, Ariel Ezzell, Logan DeShong, Avah Burns and Elliott Shirley; niece, Valerie Weberg; and furry friends, Calico, Oreo, Sassy, Prince, Walter and Pixie.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Cantrell.

Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, 2019, at Munden Funeral Home.
