Lester Allen Salter

September 15, 1967 — February 9, 2018

Lester Allen Salter, 50, of Davis, passed away Friday, February 9, 2018 at Vidant Edgecombe Hospital in Tarboro.

His celebration of life service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday February 13, 2018 at the Smyrna Pentecostal Holiness Church where he attended with his family, officiated by Reverend William O’Neal and Gerry Smith. Interment, with Masonic Rites, was held privately due to weather conditions at the Oscar Davis Cemetery.

Lester Allen was a member of Davis First Baptist Church where he served a deacon as a young man. He was also a member of the Crissie Wright Masonic Lodge #741.

From birth, Lester Allen enjoyed the advantages of living in the Davis community with a salt water bloodline. His love for commercial fishing was always a topic for conversation with friends and family and a must for the photo collection. At an early age, he would often speak of nights shrimping with Uncle Dickie to make enough money to buy his first car. As he grew slightly older, his love for surfing and duck hunting seemed to surface, and his favorite color pattern camouflage. These adventures continued throughout life including hunting and fishing but no longer were the priority when his daughter arrived.

Lester graduated from East Carteret High School and went on to Cape Fear Community College where he graduated with an Associate Degree in Marine Technology. Lester Allen worked multiple positions within the Maritime Industries for most of his career. He performed varies positions including deckhand, crew boat captain, survey boat captain and mate. Through dedication and perseverance, Lester Allen obtained the following licenses: AB unlimited, 100-ton Captain and 1600-ton Mate.  He worked for the Duke Marine Lab research vessel Cape Hatteras, B/B Dredging, Army Corps of Engineers and North Carolina Ferry Division (NCDOT).

Lester Allen’s most valuable position came approximately six years ago with a new job called “Daddy.” He was in love from first sight. Camouflage became pink, duck calls turned to barbies and fishing trips turned to playdates at McDonalds.  Life will never be the same. We miss you and love you forever.

2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 “May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.”

He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Lynn Gillikin of the home; Victoria Rose Salter of the home; mother, Elizabeth Salter Ritchey and James Ritchey of Davis; brother, Rodney Wayne Salter of Davis; mother in law, Sandra Lynne Gillikin of Otway; aunts and uncles, James and Nadine Styron of Davis, Lorraine and Leton Alligood of Savannah, GA, Dickie and Bev Styron of Davis, Alice and Marvin Moore of Morehead City,  and Mary Sue and Woody Hancock of Sea Level and nieces, Emileigh Grace Salter and Susanna Gale Salter with many other cousins and extended family.
