Lester E. Haskett

November 29, 1924 — May 4, 2013

Lester E. Haskett, 88, of Morehead City, died Saturday, May 4, 2013 at his home.

Funeral services will be held 11:00am Wednesday at Open Door Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Linebarger and the Rev. James Chadwick officiating.  Burial will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Park.

He is survived by his wife Edna Haskett of 68 years;  daughter, Brenda Haskett Grable of Kingsport, TN; son, Lester Haskett Jr. of Raleigh: sisters, Emma Small of Mill Creek and Lelia Towns of CT; brother, Donald Haskett of Bilox, MS.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Margie Haskett and brothers, Kilby Haskett and Ralph Haskett.

Lester graduated from Newport High School in 1942. He served in the US Army during WWII with the 563 Anti Aircraft Artillery.  He retired from NADEPS, Cherry Point and was a member of the Open Door Baptist Church.

Lester has been active in bowling since 1951 and served in various capacities in the Carteret-Craven Bowling Assoc. (CCBA)   He served as a House Representative, secretary/treasure, vice president, president (1995), and was a lifetime member of the association.  He served on the State Board of Directors as District Director and Vice President and was President of the State Assoc. in 1995.

He was also a member of the North Carolina Young American Bowling Alliance and served as President of the Carteret-Craven Junior Bowling Assoc.

In 1998 Lester was the first member of the Carteret-Craven Bowling Assoc.  inducted into the North Carolina State Bowling Assoc Hall of Fame.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Tuesday at Munden Funeral Home.
