Leslie “Les” Albertson, 73, of Newport passed away Saturday, January 30, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family.

A memorial service will be held at 7 pm, Monday, February 1st, 2016, at Munden Funeral Home with Pastor, Johnny Underwood to officiate.

Les was born July 8, 1942 in Lenoir Co, NC, to James L. Albertson and Eva Belle Rouse Albertson. Due to the untimely early death of his father, he grew up in Oxford Orphanage, Oxford, NC. Les was an excellent athlete, excelling in Basketball and Pole Vaulting and after graduation he enlisted in the US Airforce and honorably served 2 years. He returned to Kinston, NC where he worked at DuPont.  He went to work for Farm Bureau as an Agent in Lenoir, NC and retired with 38 years of service. Les was a Shriner and Mason. His passion was golf and he enjoyed every minute on the golf course with his buddies. Blue grass gospel music was one way Les praised God. He loved getting in his Motorhome and traveling to gospel singings. Les was a friend to many, but his most precious friend was Tommy Daughetry who he admired, respected, and most of all loved.

He is survived by his wife, Ivy Jo Barwick Albertson; stepson, Justin H. Monsees; three brothers, Jimmy Albertson and wife Phyliss of Rex, GA, William D. Albertson and wife Louise of Shenandoah Valley, WVA and Allen Albertson of Greenville, NC; one sister, Pat Albertson Horner of Kinston, NC; and several nieces and nephews; also fur babies, Annie, Shuggie, and Gatsy, beloved pets.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James L. Albertson and Eva Belle Rouse Albertson.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Munden Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Sudan Shriners 403 East Front St. New Bern, NC 28560, designate Shriners Hospitals for Children.
