Leonda Hancock, 89, of Harkers Island, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2010, in the comfort of her home with her family by her side.
Services will be held 2:00 pm Sunday at Harkers Island Pentecostal Holiness Church with Reverend Paul Loftin and Anthony Nelson. Interment will follow at Vergie Mae Cemetery with former Bishop Alton Best.
Mrs. Hancock was born in Stacy, NC , on May 17, 1921, to the late Joseph Eason Gaskill and Elizabeth Pittman Gaskill. She was a member of the Harkers Island Pentecostal Holiness Church, and former owner of the Sea Horse Restautant on Harkers Island. She cooked for every minister that came to Harkers Island and was loved by all.
She is survived by her son Bobby Leroy Hancock and wife Ann of Harkers Island; daughter Paulette Lavonia Brantley of Harkers Island; grandchildren Vanessa Lawrence, Vaughn Hancock, Paula Willis, and Davie Willis; great-grandchildren Crystal, Casey, Kendra, Jeff, Hailey, Taylor, Jordan Ray, and Kevin; and great-great-grandchildren Elijah and Mariah.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leroy Hancock, brothers Norwood Gaskill and Eugene Gaskill; sisters Mamie Fulcher, Hilda Gaskill and Emily Rose; and her best friend, D.J.
The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 pm Saturday at the Church.
