Lennis Ipock, 65, of Newport, passed away Sunday, August 30, 2015 at Croatan Ridge Nursing Home.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Munden Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wayne Best officiating. Interment will follow at Bayview Cemetery.
Lennis was a former employee of Munden Funeral Home, who was affectionately known as the "Gravedigger", or "The Rev". For over 25 years, he prepared the graves for most of Carteret County, using only his brute strength and a shovel . He also worked at the Country Club of the Crystal Coast in Pine Knoll Shores for 9 years. He was an avid NASCAR and N.C. State Wolfpack fan. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, and brother, who was very loyal to his family. Lennis loved to tell stories of his hilarious exploits in life.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene Salter Ipock of the home; daughter, Ashley Ipock Turner of Salter Path; four sons, Allen Ipock of Morehead City, Jason Ipock of Columbia, SC, Bryan Ipock of Maryland and Andy Ipock of Newport; six brothers, Bobby Ipock and James "Bubbie" both of Morehead City, Russell "Shug" Ipock, Mike Ipock, and Sambo Ipock all of Newport, and Kemp Ipock of Bethel; a sister, Janie Mae Priddy of Morehead City; and eleven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Letha Mae Ipock; and two brothers, Billy and Charles Ipock.
The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 pm Wednesday at Munden Funeral Home.
