Leland Adrian Sanders, 70, of Bogue, passed away Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Carolina East Medical Center.
A memorial service to honor Leland’s life will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, June 9th at the Living Waters Church of God of Prophecy in Bogue, officiated by Rev. Tony Russell. Interment will follow at Bethlehem Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Leland was born on October 14, 1953, in Craven County, raised by Leslie and Nannie Bell Sanders. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Beyond his military service, he was an active member of the New Bern American Legion, volunteering his time and effort to his fellow veterans. A diehard Tar Heels fan, Leland loved cheering on his team with the utmost enthusiasm.
Leland was a devoted man of faith, he played an important role in his home church, running the sound system and ensuring the service was heard with clarity and grace. He had a great love for Southern Gospel music, finding peace in its harmonies. He also had a gift for humor and always had a good joke ready. Leland loved to make people laugh. His family was his pride and joy and he shared over 42 years with the love of his life Kathy. May Leland be remembered for his service, faith, and laughter that he brought into the lives he touched.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Kathy Sanders of the home; sons, Brandon Todd Sanders, and Aaron Kyle Sanders; stepsister, Shirley Adams; uncle, Tommy Lewis; cousins, Jean Hunnings, Buddy Sanders, William Sanders, Lorane Ipock, Pamelia Fesperman; and their loving supportive families.
In addition to his parents, Leland was preceded in death by his stepmother, Irene Sanders; and stepbrother, Charlie Adams.
