Leia Caitlyn Lewis

October 24, 1990 — July 14, 2024

Greenville

Leia Caitlyn Lewis, 33, of Greenville, North Carolina, left this world on the morning of July 14, 2024, at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, following a battle with liver disease, with her father by her side.

A celebration of Leia’s life will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, July 20th at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. For those unable to attend, the service can be viewed through her obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website. The service will remain on the Funeral Home website for 90 days.

Leia was born on October 24, 1990, to Charity Marie Sadler (Maynard) and N. Paul Lewis, Jr. During her brief time in this world, she did many things. She played tee ball, softball, Girl Scouts, cheerleading, band in middle school, and even drove a Bandolero race car. While racing, she even participated in a Nationals Event in Mobile, AL Leia was a gifted student and excelled at whatever she tried.

In her free time, she loved to travel, her favorite destinations being Savannah, Georgia, the great state of Texas, Disney World, Milan, Italy, and Hawaii. One of her favorite memories was her “sister’s trip” when they all vacationed in Key West, Florida. No matter where they went she was sure to find an antique shop and would spend hours browsing their treasures.

In 2007, she left Carteret County and moved to Texas with her life partner, Chase Williamson. In 2009, while there they welcomed their son, Carson Lewis Williamson. After the birth of her son, Leia restarted her education. She received her GED and enrolled in Tarrant County Community College where she studied pre-nursing.

In 2013, the family relocated back to Carteret County to be nearer to her family. In 2014, Leia graduated from Coastal Carolina Community College with an AD and a 4.0 GPA. She then was accepted into ECU and graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and a 3.65 GPA. That year the family moved to Greenville to begin her Master's studies. In 2019, she completed her studies and received her degree in Microbiology.

Having discovered a liking for teaching, she taught chemistry at North East Carolina Prep and later at Southwest Edgecombe High School. We have learned that she touched a great number of lives while there.

Those left to mourn her are the pride of her heart, her son, Carson Williamson; her life partner, Chase Williamson; mother, Charity Maynard (Chuck); father, N. Paul Lewis, Jr. (Nancy); sisters, Wendy Ransier (Michael), Brandi Golojuch (Roberto), and Sabrina Sadler; nieces, Briana, Kayla, Madison; nephew, Garret; father-in-law, Calvin Williamson (Deborah); sister-in-law, Caci Williamson; and her furries, Milo, Maggie, Sassy and Hazel;

Leia is preceded in death by her grandparents, Norman and Beatrice Avery and Norwood and Frieda Lewis; as well as Janice Williamson, and her furries, Shadow and Katie.

Animals always had a special place in Leia’s heart, she never passed by a furry friend without giving them some love. With that in mind, as an expression of sympathy, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Leia’s name to the Carteret County Humane Society, 853 Hibbs Rd., Newport, NC 28570 or the Humane Society of Eastern North Carolina, 3520 Tupper Dr., Greenville, NC 27834. Another organization that was close to her heart was the Victory Junction Gang Camp, 4500 Adam's Way, Randleman, NC 27317.

Family and friends are welcome to submit online condolences at www.mundenfuneralhome.net.
