Douglas “Bruiser” Pearce, 80, of Morehead City, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 31, 2025, at the Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.
A memorial service to honor Douglas' life will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, April 4th at Munden Funeral Home.
Born on June 8, 1944, in Boon Hill Township, Johnston County, NC, Douglas was the son of the late Etheridge and Martha Lillian Pearce. Following high school, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. His military service remained a significant source of pride for him throughout his life.
Douglas was known for his engaging personality, love of storytelling, and ability to converse on a variety of topics, allowing him to connect with everyone he met. His work in sales at Sears Roebuck was a perfect match for his outgoing nature. In his later years, he worked with CCATS, where he loved chatting with all the riders.
An avid golfer, Douglas earned numerous trophies for his skill on the course. When he wasn’t golfing, he enjoyed fishing, always eager for the next big catch.
Above all, Douglas will be remembered as a loving husband, fun father, and proud grandfather and great-grandfather. His storytelling ability and joyful spirit will continue to bring smiles to all who knew him.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Betty Louise Pearce; daughter, ChristiLee Casserly of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren, Destiny Furlong (Joey) of Canada, Christian Wood of Greenville, NC, Vann Nelson (Lilly) of Jacksonville, NC and Laci Nelson of Wilmington, NC; great-grandchildren, Frankie Furlong, Skylar Furlong, and Miles Nelson; niece, Dianne Thorne (Jimmy); and close friends, Jessie Brown, Edna Bostic, and David Blizzard.
In addition to his parents, Douglas was preceded in death by his son, Michael Pearce; and siblings, Eleanor Ruth Abbott, Elsie Marlow, and Billy Ray Pearce; and brothers-in-law, Jim and Timmy Mitchell.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
