Lee Simrell Broughton

Lee Simrell Broughton, 67, of Pine Knolls Shores, peacefully transitioned Friday, February 2, 2018 at her home, with her loved ones by her side.

The family will conduct a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Morehead City, officiated by Rev. John Pollock. Inurnment to follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Gardens at a later date.

Lee graduated from Meredith College Summa Cum Laude, majoring in Mathematics and Voice. Her first love was singing, and she used her gift mainly at church, singing soprano. She sang in the choir at the St. Andrews Episcopal Church of Rocky Mount, Lakeside Baptist Church, the Crystal Coast Choir, and at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Morehead City where she was also the Treasurer. Lee was a dedicated lady who could be found volunteering at the animal shelter or with Meals on Wheels. She was the operator of the family business, Steve Broughton Rentals of Raleigh and Rocky Mount. She will be remembered as a fine devout Christian lady and a loving mother.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Steve Broughton of the home; daughter, Devon Caroline Broughton and husband, Kevin Dean Conner of Raleigh; son, Jonathan Simrell Broughton of Pine Knolls Shores; first cousin, Peter Moylan and wife, Maureen of Scranton, PA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Edith Rose Simrell; son, Gregory Nelson Broughton who passed away in 1996; and her beloved dog, Daisy, who was known as the “choir dog” attending choir practices with her.

The family will have a reception at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Morehead City, immediately following the service.
