Lawrence “Larry” David Clugston passed away peacefully on 18 April, 2014 at home of pancreatic cancer, surrounded by devoted family.
Larry was a merchant for over 20 years in the Atlantic Station Shopping Center as the proprietor of the Beach Book Mart in Atlantic Beach. A reformed “yankee,”with a sense of humor, Larry moved to North Carolina in 1978 where he later opened the store to share his passion for books, comics, and all things media related. His overwhelming subject knowledge helped numerous citizens and visitors to the Crystal Coast find just the right “beach read”. He contributed regularly to the Carteret Literacy Council, and numerous other charities. Larry’s quiet, yet dry sense of humor, (some might say warped) endeared him to many.
Larry is survived by his wife, Pamela Hanson; daughters Capt. Erika Hanson of Arlington, VA and Lt. Aubry Rose Drye and husband Scott Drye of Fayetteville, NC; his grandchildren Cameron David and Isabel Rose ; and his brother William Clugston and family of Seattle, WA.
