Lawrence Conaway Brown, Jr.

May 9, 1927 — August 10, 2014

Lawrence Conaway Brown, Jr. 87, of Morehead City, died peacefully August 10, 2014.

A service remembering a remarkable life and celebrating his new heavenly home of which he was certain and anticipated with a great faith, will be held 11:00 am Thursday August 14, 2014 at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City with Rev. Joe Motley officiating and Rev. Clyde Cheezum assisting.

Lawrence joined the U.S. Navy in 1944 to support the war effort. After World War II, he moved "to the beach, to have fun and go to technical school on the G.I. Bill", where he met the love of his life, his beloved Fannie Marie. Beginning as a metal smith, Lawrence worked 36 years at Naval Air Rework Facility, Cherry Point retiring as an inspector in 1987.
Lawrence found great joy in loving, sharing, and giving. He cherished and served his family, friends, and neighbors tirelessly, unselfishly, and with a great devotion.

With a green thumb, Lawrence enjoyed propagating then sharing many kinds of plants and flowers. His ornamental pepper plants can be found up and down the east coast. A talent for woodworking had him designing and crafting whimsicals and what-nots, tables and Adirondack chairs that made his yard sales famous. He always valued the time spent talking with people more than any revenue. His optimism and genuine love of life and his fellow man made him irresistible to everyone he met. Nobody ever had a better friend than Lawrence Brown. He will be greatly missed.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved and devoted wife of 64 years, Fannie Marie Guthrie Brown, his daughter Dana Bierma and husband Steve, his son Jeff Brown and wife Anne, his brother Carl Brown and wife Frances, and brother-in-law Gilbert Kearns, granddaughters Gina Houcek and Hannah Brown and great grandchildren Elise, Aiden, and Reed. He was also especially fond of his sister-in law Sandra Bell, niece Kim Wichtl and neighbor Ellen Maready.

A member of Franklin Memorial UMC for over 60 years, he encouraged and guided many souls as a Sunday school teacher and a lay speaker. He was a wonderful Christian man.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family welcomes flowers, or memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors, 4200 Morganton Rd, Suite 300, Fayetteville, NC 28314 or Salvation Army, PO Box 399, Morehead City, NC 28557.
