Larry "Bobby" Roberts Davis Jr.

Larry “Bobby Jr.” Roberts Davis, Jr., 62, of Beaufort, North Carolina passed away at his home on Friday, December 13, 2024.

A funeral service to honor Bobby’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 18 at One Harbor Church in Beaufort, officiated by Pastor Scott Beierwaltes. Interment will follow at Victoria Community Cemetery in Marshallberg. The family will receive friends at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Blessed to have been raised in the Down East Community of Marshallberg, Bobby Jr. lived an idyllic childhood. With Core Sound as his back yard, his days were spent in the water with his siblings. His love for salt water was never abandoned.

Following high school, Bobby Jr. enlisted in the US Coast Guard. He was stationed in Clearwater Florida – every young, single man’s dream. In later years, when someone would say “Thank you for your service”, he’d reply, “No, thank YOU.”

After leaving the service, Bobby Jr. moved back home and met the love of his life, Sharon Cox. Bobby Jr. (or "Larry Bear” as Sharon affectionately called him) and Sharon were married in 1997. They had a son, Chad Wesley Cox Davis, which they both cherished. Sadly, in 2004, Sharon lost her battle with cancer, leaving him with many long years of grief.

Bobby Jr. went about life as the humblest of men. Always “listening” for anyone that needed help. He was a quiet, gentle man who described himself as a loner…until he met Jesus.

Although Bobby Jr. was raised in the church, it wasn’t until 2022 that he accepted Jesus into his heart. His entire life was changed. He went from “waiting” for the day he’d be with his beloved Sharon, to submitting his existence to become the “hands and feet of Jesus”. He quietly went about each day, helping where help was needed. He was a full-time caregiver for his parents. With such a love for his role, his care was equivalent to the service of a personal butler. He went about the neighborhood assisting those in need, as well as other family members that needed any extra help. 

Bobby Jr. was a deep thinker, putting many of his words to pen and paper. He left behind a large collection of poetry that he wrote through each phase of his life. He was always eager to share his work with those who might appreciate, or need it. Many of his later poems spoke of his love for Christ, and how he eagerly looked forward to the day that he would be at Jesus’ feet.

At the end of a long day, or sometimes before sunrise, Bobby Jr. could be found fishing or cast netting on the small dock at the end of Beaufort waterfront. He was a talented fisherman, usually with a catch that was the envy of others, while using the simplest of equipment. He had a way of making much with little.

Bobby Jr. was a person with a boundless sense of humor. Whether through clever jokes, or witty one-liners, he had a remarkable ability to lift the spirits of those around him, turning even ordinary moments into something memorable. 

He was a man that loved and was loved deeply, was ever faithful, and was profoundly committed to his family. We will be forever blessed for having had him in our lives. 

Bobby Jr. is survived by his parents, Larry Roberts Davis, Sr. and Sylvia Salter Davis of Beaufort, a son, Chad Wesley Cox Davis, of Morehead City, sisters Lida Davis Lewis of Beaufort, and Tammy Davis McLaughlin (Joey) of Trenton, brothers Mark Christian Davis (Robin) of Wilmington, and Jody Heath Davis of Greenville, aunts Deborah and Melva Davis of Marshallberg, and Sandra Davis of Morehead City.

Bobby Jr. is also survived by nieces Brandie McGrath (Shane) of New Bern, Tiffany Johnson of Beaufort, and Sydney and Ryan Davis of Wilmington and nephew, Cameron Guthrie (Brooke) of New Bern. He leaves behind many great nieces and nephews that brought him so much joy!

Bobby Jr. was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sharon Cox Davis.
