L. Gordon Hardesty

L. Gordon Hardesty, 102, of Beaufort, NC died Thursday, August 25, 2011 at Carteret General Hospital.

Services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Beaufort with Rev. Michael Fields officiating. Interment will follow at Oceanview Cemetery.

Mr. Hardesty was the owner and operator of Hardesty Motors and served Carteret County in many ways over the years. He was the Chairman of the Carteret County Republican Party and a member of the Board of Directors for the NC Railroad. He served as a Commissioner for both Carteret County and the Town of Beaufort. He was the Chairman of the Carteret County ABC Board for 18 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Beaufort, the Oddfellows Lodge and the Moose Lodge. He served on the Carteret General Hospital Board and the Governors Law and Order Commission. In all of his service, he never missed a meeting.

He is survived by his daughter, Patricia A. Hardesty of the home; son, Jerry T. Hardesty and wife Karen of Beaufort; grandchildren, Helen Hardesty Rooney and husband Artie of Summerville, SC, L. G. "Buddy" Hardesty of Beaufort, NC; Jerry T. Hardesty, Jr. and wife Sheila of Greenville, NC, Caroline Hardesty Bird and husband Stephen of Holly Springs, NC and Allison Hardesty Bernauer and husband Korey of Beaufort, NC; great-grandchildren, Trey, Jacob, Elizabeth, Arthur, Russell, Gordon, Joel, Max, Callie Margaret, Caleb, and Reagan; great-great-grandchildren, Caroline, William, Patrick, Erinn, Noah, Hunter, Zachary, and Jacob.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Callie Gillikin Hardesty; parents, Kenneth and Addie Hardesty; son, Lionel Gordon Hardesty, Jr.; sisters, Madeline Jones, Ruth Whaley, Mary Wallsee, and Lillian Hardesty; and brothers, Raymond Hardesty and Junius Hardesty.

The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday at Munden Funeral Home.
