Kevin Lee Underwood

Kevin Lee Underwood Sr., 62, of Broad Creek, NC (formerly of Derby, KS) passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Crystal Coast Hospice House surrounded by family.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at Glad Tidings Church with Rev. Tim Marriner and Rev. DeWayne Dickerson presiding. The graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm at Coastal Carolina VA Cemetery in Jacksonville.

Kevin was born in Dodge City, Kansas but called North Carolina home from the age of seven.  He honorably served his country in the United States Air Force and retired after 26 years as a Master Sergeant.  He received his Bachelors in Business Administration with honors from Park College.  For sixteen years he owned and operated “Underwood & Sons General Contracting”.  He was also a bus driver for CCATS and Carteret County schools, where he received the “Driver of the Year” award for 2015-2016.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and son.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Elaine Underwood; parents, Howard Lee and Laura Jane Hill Underwood of Derby, KS; daughters, Tabitha Nixon and husband Jamie of Bogue, Kristin Underwood Furr and husband Chris of Broad Creek; son, Kevin Underwood Jr. and wife Jennifer of Cape Carteret; brother, Kirt Underwood and wife Kathy of Bogue; sister, Kim Hancock and husband Stan of Derby, KS; grandchildren, Alyssa, Piper, Asher, Berlyn, Selah, Lorelei; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will welcome friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Glad Tidings Church

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Autism Society of North Carolina – Crystal Coast Chapter, 113 Roberts Road, Newport, NC 28570.
