Kay (Slaughter) Hewitt

Kay Slaughter Hewitt, 74, of Newport, died Wednesday, September 19, 2012, at her home.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Saturday at Munden Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Gurganus officiating. Interment to follow at Amariah Garner Cemetery.
Kay "Ladybug" Hewitt was known for her civic involvement and leadership in Carteret County and was active in Garden and Daylily societies, as the owner of Hewitt Daylily Gardens.
Kay is survived by her husband Howard Allen Hewitt of the home: son Stephen Patrick Hewitt and wife Trudy Leigh Hewitt of Cary NC: sister Judith Mayberry of Garner, NC; brother Vernon Daniel Slaughter, Jr., of Raleigh, NC: one grandchild Caitlin Leigh Hewitt of Cary, NC.
She was preceded in death by her parents Vernon and Elizabeth Slaughter and a son Mark Allen Hewitt.
Visitation will be 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Friday at Munden Funeral Home.
