Kathryn Ellen DeHart, 61, of Cape Carteret, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2016, as a result of a stroke suffered earlier this summer.

A memorial service will be announced later.

Kay was born in Cumberland, MD, the third daughter of the late Richard C. and Wanda (Shobe) DeHart of Millersville, PA.  Kay loved the challenge of games, particularly trivia, where she excelled.  Vintage movies were her specialty.  You wanted her on your team!  She had a special gift for languages speaking Spanish and Portuguese.  She did the New York Times Sunday crossword puzzle in ink.

Kay graduated from Penn Manor High School in Millersville, PA.  She played cello in the school orchestra and was on the field hockey team.  She also played piano and swam for the Lion’s Club Team.  After high school, she was an exchange student to Brazil.  She attended Millersville University and York Technical Institute.  Kay held various sales positions throughout her life.

Travel was her passion.  Whether on a motorcycle, in a pick-up truck or car, Kay wanted to go.  Driving cross country in her convertible was her true delight.  Kay loved Carlin, clothes and cats.  Her laughter and wicked sense of humor will be missed.

The family would like to thank those at Carteret Health Care for your truly compassionate care of Kay through her final days.

Kay is survived by her partner, David Michael Martin of Cape Carteret; two sons, John Seitz and wife Eleanor of Iowa City, IA and Michael Wallace of Punta Gorda, FL; granddaughter, Madeline of Iowa City, IA; and older sisters, Jane Shipley of Lakeland, FL and Molly Henderson of Lancaster, PA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Carteret County Humane Society Inc., PO Box 357, Newport, NC 28570 or to Humane League of Lancaster, 2195 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster, PA 17602.
