Karen was born on September 15, 1947, in Rochester, Pennsylvania, to the late William and Evelyn Perault. She spent her early career as a Trust Assistant at Wachovia Bank in Charlotte, NC, before transitioning to a rewarding role as a realtor at Century 21 in Emerald Isle, and later serving as a head teller at Cooperative Bank in Morehead City.
Her heart always belonged to the beach, where she found joy in the sun, sand, and surf. The peaceful walks along the shore brought her solace, and she cherished the moments spent searching for sand dollars, which she lovingly transformed into beautiful wreaths. In her downtime, she immersed herself in captivating novels, finding comfort and adventure within their pages.
Karen was a warm and inviting presence, always ready to welcome and entertain her family and friends, creating cherished memories that will last a lifetime. Her love for animals was evident in her devotion to her beloved dogs—Sushi, Hallie, and Rusty—who brought her immense joy. With her radiant smile and infectious laughter, Karen touched the lives of those around her, embodying beauty, kindness, and warmth both inside and out.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her husband, Richard “Buzz” Brown; children, Scott Brown and spouse Casey, and Crystal Brown and spouse Jeff; grandchildren, Marilyn, Weston, Camden, Dylan, and Davis; and siblings, Bud Perault and spouse Linda, and Dell “Frosty” Perault and spouse Vickie.
Karen was preceded in death by her beloved parents, William and Evelyn Perault; her brother, Ross Perault; and her sister, Sandy Hott.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association.
