Judy was born on January 28, 1941, in Morehead City, NC to the late Alvah and Alice Goodwin. She married the love of her life, Neil, on October 5, 1957. Together they built a wonderful life full of love and commitment to each other and God. They had three beautiful children, Becky, Carol, and Michael, whom she loved very much. Her grandchildren were the apples of her eye, and she would tell them “I don’t have a favorite, but if I did, it would be you,” and they all believed her. Her family will always remember the large Sunday dinners, Thanksgiving, and Christmas mornings at her house. She always did her best to make all her family feel special and loved. She was always thinking of unique gifts to give everyone, especially her grandchildren. She put her family above herself and never missed significant events with them.
She was a lifelong member of Cedar Island Methodist Church, where she served on many committees, was a Sunday school teacher, and was Secretary of Sunday School for many years. She was a career employee and Postmaster for the US Postal Service for 32 years at the Cedar Island Post Office. Many people have memories of her weighing them when they were little or their children on the scales to see how much they had grown since the last time that she saw them. She took a great deal of pride in her roles at church, at work, and in her beloved community. She was always there to lend a helping hand, whether it was to plan a fundraiser to support her community, baby or wedding shower, or whatever need may have arisen.
She is survived by her children, Becky Saunders and husband Doc of Atlantic, Carol Murphy and husband Lester Gray, and Michael Neil Daniels and wife Rosemary of Cedar Island. Grandchildren, Jamie Daniels and girlfriend Jennifer of Cedar Island; Little Doc Saunders and Travis Saunders of Atlantic; Delisa Styron and husband Neil, and Becky Willis and husband Brandon of Davis; Cayton Daniels and wife Delsie of Marshallberg; special niece, Kelly Gann of San Diego, CA. Great-grandchildren, Ayden Daniels, Olivia Rimmer, Murphy Styron, Madolynn Saunders, Neilly Ann Styron, Beckett Willis, Maya Cate Daniels, and Raegan Saunders. Siblings, James Goodwin, Louis “Soddy Goodwin, and Virgina Dawn Moore. Sisters-in-law, Callie Daniels, and Barbara Daniels. Special family member, Carmen O’Neil, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Neil, and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
