Juanita McManamay

October 23, 1945 — February 5, 2019

Newport

Juanita McManamay, 73, of Newport, NC, formerly of Beckley, WV, lost her courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.

A Celebration of her life is being planned for a future date.

Juanita was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 23, 1945. She worked at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley for many years before retiring. Mom wore many hats at the hospital but working as an Operating Room Tech made her the happiest.

Mom never met a stranger, she enjoyed helping others and making them smile. She loved her family and friends and was well-known for stopping her car to help an errant turtle find its way across the road on more than one occasion. She loved life in all its forms and that is what made us love her all the more. She touched so many lives and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her daughters, Charlotte (Donell) and spouse Howard Higgins of Dunn, NC, Diana (McManamay) and spouse Michael Alberti of Newport, NC; and son, Walter Lee McManamay, Jr. and spouse Matthew Fink of Charleston, WV. She is also survived by brothers, Robert Daniel Mynes of Palm Coast, FL and Johnny Ray Elam of Raeford, NC; 2 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren; and lastly, her beloved fur baby, Jack.

She was preceded in death by her parents and beloved brother, Armister Clay Mynes of Orlando, FL.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Crystal Bluffs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport, NC for the excellent, loving care they gave to our Mother. We would also like to thank Broad Street Clinic, especially Edie Reed, for the friendship and compassion Mom received. Lastly, we would like to thank Dr. Loynes and the Raab Clinic, whose friendly staff worked hard towards beating this dreaded disease.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Broad Street Clinic Foundation at 534 North 35th Street, Suite K, Morehead City, NC 28557 or an animal shelter of your choice.
