Juanita was born on May 21, 1936, in Newport, North Carolina, to the late Willie and Elsie Johnson. She was a unique, kind-hearted woman who was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. You never had to wonder what she was thinking because she would happily tell you just where you stood with her and what she thought about you.
Juanita bestowed her love and care upon her family, ensuring their well-being and happiness. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family, as she would often selflessly assist friends and neighbors during times of illness or hardship.
Education held great importance to Juanita who enjoyed her role as a substitute teacher. Her firm yet fair approach to discipline was for the sole purpose of helping nurture their young minds. Juanita also worked at her son's plant stand where she enjoyed interacting with the customers. Her nurturing nature permeated every aspect of her life, be it caring for her loved ones or interacting with friends and acquaintances.
Juanita had an incredible talent for landscaping, enjoying the seasonal holidays the most. She worked on numerous cheerful Christmas designs to whimsical Halloween decorations for yards where her creative touch brought joy to all who passed by.
In her free time, Juanita took every opportunity she could to travel. Exploring new places and broadening her horizons. Whether it was a road trip to a nearby town or an exciting adventure, she embraced each experience with enthusiasm and an open heart.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her sons, Dennis Garner and wife Inez and Greg Garner and wife Jacki, all of Newport; sisters-in-law, Paula Johnson and Becky Hopkins; brother-in-law, Ralph Simmons; grandchildren, Shaun Keith Garner and fiancé Kyrstle Waddell, Michael Paul Garner and companion Rebecca Rosemond, Breanne Garner and fiancé Bradly Fullen, and Ryan Garner; and great-grandchildren, Megan Garner, Matthew Garner, McKenzie Garner, Layla Garner and Kayla Garner.
In addition to her parents, Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, Jack K. Garner in 2001; son, Randy Garner; sister, Anne Simmons; and brothers, Bobby Johnson (Frances), and Arthur Johnson.
The family would like to especially thank her caregivers, Ellen Gray and Rebecca Rosemond.
