Joyce Jones Merrifield

Joyce Jones Merrifield was born in Hillis, Arkansas on November 1, 1927 and went to rest with the Lord on Sunday, October 6, 2013.
A service honoring her life will be at Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 10 o’clock at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City, North Carolina. Pastor R. Torres from the New Bern Seventh Day Adventist Church will be officiating. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery in Newport on Hwy 24.
Joyce was one of eight living children. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from Madison College in Madison, TN and then went to work at Hialeah Hospital in Hialeah Florida, just outside Miami, for 34 years. She retired and moved to North Carolina to be with her family where she was an active member of the New Bern Seventh-day Adventist Church since 1986.
Preceding her in death were: her father, James Wilson Jones; her mother, Lillie Mae Bull Jones; her brothers, Gerald Jones and James Jones; her granddaughter, Dawn Marie Nock and her furry companions Beethoven Skeeter, Ebby, Barney and Snoopy.
Her surviving siblings are sisters Barbara Henderson, Dorothy Chandler and brothers Donald, Myrl and Charlie Jones.
Her surviving children are: Joyce Kimberly Hill, daughter, Randall Jones Welch, son, Eva Marie Lawrence, daughter in law and Roy M. Merrifield, step-son.
Surviving grandchildren are: Marie Stormi Rowe, Michael Troy Rowe; Terri Lynn Malsbury, Jeff Barr Malsbury, and Sherrie Nock Koone. Great-grandchildren include: Kathleen Elizabeth Rowe, Jake Barr Malsbury, Riley Jack Malsbury, Jack Michael Rowe, Tiffany Jessica Nock, Aeryk Tyler Nock, Anthony Jacob Sheets, and one great great-granddaughter, Lily Nevaeha Hudson.
She was loved by so many and never knew a stranger, even when out and about in public. She gave of herself to anyone who needed her. She will be missed and her compassion and unconditional love touched so many. To many, she will always be “Grandma Joyce.”
