Joyce Bell

Nelma ?Joyce? Holmes Daniels Bell, age 81, of Havelock, N.C. went to be with her Lord on September 11, 2010 after many years of declining health. A longtime resident of Havelock of over 40 years, she enjoyed life, especially small children. She enjoyed walking in the surf, collecting seashells, and never losing her taste for seafood. She was employed over 20 years in the Child Development Center at the Cherry Point Marine Air Station and then served as a volunteer after her retirement at the Roger R. Bell Elementary School in Havelock. In 1999 she was nominated by the school staff for the Distinguished Woman of Craven County award for her loving and kind-hearted contributions in many classrooms as an assistant, her dedication towards the development of the lives of many little ones on a daily basis, and her calm and helpful attitude.

She enjoyed assisting in the childcare nursery at Cherry Point Baptist Church in Havelock, where she and her husband were long term, active members for many years.

Mrs. Bell was born December 07, 1928 at home in Elizabeth City, Pasquotank County, N.C. to John Pleasy Holmes and Bertie Creef Holmes. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Stuart Daniels and their son, Barry; her second husband, Roger R. Bell, Sr.; step-grandchildren, James Arland Bell and Roger Brandon Bell; and two sisters, Helen Hobbs and Talmadge Tugwell. She is survived by her step-children and their spouses, Arland L. Bell and Jane, Gene A. Bell and Suzanne, Robert Wistar Bell, all of Havelock; Talitha B. Boyd and Thomas of Charleston, S.C.; Roger R. Bell, II and Jane of Pulaski, Va.; and eight step-grandchildren; cousin, Inez Gibbs of Norfolk, Va; and four nieces, Colleen Oster of Westminster, Md, Debra Woodell of Norfolk, Va, Kathy Asby of Herndon, Va, and Jaye Pulley of South Hill, Va.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at Cherry Point Baptist Church, 210 Church Road, Havelock at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will immediately follow in Forest Oaks Memorial Garden, 908 Lake Road in Havelock. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Roger R. Bell Elementary School Fund or the Cherry Point Baptist Church Building Fund. Condolences may be sent to Arland L. Bell, 103 Oakwood Dr., Havelock, N.C., 28532.
