Joseph "Joey" Earl Culpepper, Jr

Joseph "Joey" Earl Culpepper, Jr., 51, of Mill Creek, died Sunday, April 5, 2015 at his home.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Friday, April 10, 2015 at Reece's Chapel with Rev. James "Winkie" Chadwick and Rev. Adam Laster officiating. Interment will follow at A.N. Chadwick Cemetery.

Throughout his career, Deputy Culpepper completed thousands of hours of training and education including his Advanced Law Certificate from NC Training and Standards and his CICP from the NC Justice Academy.

He started his career in law enforcement with the Pine Knoll Shores Police Department in 1995 serving as a Police Officer and working his way up to serve honorably as Police Chief from July 2003 to December 2009. He also worked part time for Atlantic Beach Police Department for over 15 years.

He then continued his enforcement career joining the Carteret County Sheriff's Office in January 2010 until present. He was chosen to serve the Town of Cedar Point and it's citizens, as well as others in the western part of the county. Although he was appointed to the position, he soon came to view the people of Cedar Point as extended family.

Joey attended Reece's Chapel, and was an active member of Newport Little League.

He is survived by wife Sharon Culpepper of the home; two daughters Amy Fultz of Newport, and Elizabeth Culpepper Laster of Clover, SC; two sons Joseph Earl Culpepper III of Mill Creek, and Casey James Culpepper of Mill Creek; father Joe Culpepper of Mill Creek; mother Carolyn Culpepper of Mill Creek; sister Lisa Culpepper Lewis of Mill Creek; nine grandchildren Chase, Jordan, Selina, Adriana, Nathaniel, Jr., Heidi, Noah, Christian, and Nathaniel; two nephews Austin and Aaron; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 pm Thursday at Munden Funeral Home.
