Joseph Carroll West, 70, of Morehead City, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2016, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at Munden Funeral Home Chapel with Don Giles officiating. Interment will follow the service at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Benson, NC, at 2:30 pm.

Joseph served in the United States Army where He completed three tours in Vietnam. After He retired from the Army, he served in the National Guard and worked at NADEP until he retired from both. Joseph loved to hunt, fish, and spend a lot of time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was a member of the Church of Christ, and loved to help the church as well as helping anyone in need. He was a very dedicated husband and father.

He is survived by his wife of the home, Nancy Sue Taylor West; daughters, Carol Whitley and husband Michael, and Sarah Nelson and husband Jason; step-daughter, Polly Mitchell Giles and husband Donald; step-son, Joe Mitchell Jr.; brother, Otis West and wife Nancy; sisters, Frances Turnage, and Teresa West; grandchildren, Bryson Henry Nelson, and Bailey Nicole Nelson; as well as many nieces and nephews, and aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Ruby Ellen West; first wife, Gloria Jean West; and brother, Bobby Ray West.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Munden Funeral Home Chapel.

In lieu of flowers memorial cards may be sent to the family c/o Munden Funeral Home, 2112 Arendell St, Morehead City, NC 28557, or donations may be made to Saint Judes Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
