Joseph "Pops" Polakowski

Joseph "Pops" Polakowski, 83, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023, at his home.

Joseph, known to all as "Pops" was born on January 27, 1940, in Au Gres, Michigan, to the late Peter and Helen Polakowski. Pops was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving on the USS Norris (DD-859).

He had a great love of racehorses, owning numerous over his lifetime. He was forever captivated by their strength and speed and always enjoyed the thrill of horse racing. Pops loved all types of food and enjoyed relaxing with a good cigar.

Pops had a wonderful sense of humor and was a great storyteller; he loved to laugh and share his joy with others. In his downtime, Pops could be found at a poker table trying to outwit his competitors. Pops also enjoyed war movies and Westerns, filled with action and excitement.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his daughters, Barbara Jo McFarland (Curtis) of Deer Trail, CO, Lisa Ann Pepper of Bellevue, MI, and Jamilyn Ann Moore (Wayne Russell) of Morrow, OH; son, Joseph Peter Polakowski (Heather Nicole) of Newport, NC; brother, Peter Michael Polakowski of Sandusky, OH; and 11 grandchildren.
