Joseph Davis

Joseph Dees Davis, 83, of Leland, NC, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center after suffering internal bleeding due to a fall at home.

Services will be held 2:00 pm Thursday at the Sea Level Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Nelson Bay Cemetery.

Joe was born Dec. 22, 1927, in Many, LA. He spent a lifelong career working for the military - first in the U.S. Marine Corps and then as a munitions specialist for the U.S. Department of Defense, retiring after nearly 38 years of service.

He is survived by his wife Virginia Davis, his four children, Joseph Dees Davis Jr. and wife Robia of Midlothian, VA, Phillip Leigh Davis and wife Abbie of Augusta, GA, Debra Borsuk and husband Joe of Southport, NC, and Cathy Davis Danielle and husband Larry of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; 12 grandchildren, Michelle Coston of Leland, NC, Joey Davis of Carolina Beach, NC, William Butcher of Madison, WI, Cory Davis of Houston, TX, Erin Whitling of Cumming, GA, Brittany Butcher of Telluride, CO, Lawrence Joseph Danielle of Los Angeles, CA, Phillip Seth Davis of St. Simons, GA, April Danielle Floreno of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Dena Filiaggi of Raleigh, NC, Trey Borsuk of Southport, NC, and Alex Borsuk of Round Hill, VA; and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
