Joseph Kelly Baker, Sr.

Joseph Kelly Baker, Sr. 81, of Newport, passed away Friday, December 14­, 2018, at Croatan Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at Munden Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Tom Supplee. Interment will follow at Amariah Garner Cemetery.

Joseph honorably served in the United States Airforce for 3 years. He had 42 years of faithful service with Century Link where he worked in the telecommunication department. Joseph was a kind and thoughtful man who used his gifts to comfort the sick and elderly in the Rocky Mount community where he was a deacon at Free Will Baptist Church. Upon moving to Newport, he became a member of St. James United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Faye Baker, of the home; sons, Joseph Kelly Baker, Jr. and his wife, Cheryl, of Newport and Christopher Dale and wife, Suzanne, of Durham; sister, Ann Russell and husband, Tom of Angier; brothers, Hugh Baker and wife, Catherine, of Smithfield and Billy Baker of Oregon; and grandchildren, Patrick Mason Baker, Heath Davis Baker and Katelynn Marie Fonseca.

Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, December 17, 2018, at Munden Funeral Home.
