John Roland "Johnnie" Cannon

July 24, 1923 — November 9, 2013

John Roland "Johnnie" Cannon, 90, of South River, died Saturday, November 9, 2013, at Heritage Health Care at Taylor's Place.

Services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday at Edwards Chapel Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Ernest Laxton officiating, Rev. Wilbur Hall, and Rev. Terry Johnson will be assisting with the service. Burial will immediately follow at the Cannon Family Cemetery, South River, North Carolina with full military honors.

Mr. Cannon was a member of Edwards Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, where he served many years as a Sunday School Teacher and Deacon. He was a WWII Veteran where he served in the US Navy from 1941- 1945.

He is survived by two sons, John R. "Butch" Cannon, Jr. and wife Viola of Morehead City and Donald G. Cannon and very special friend, Margie Mann both of Beaufort; a daughter, Mary Cannon Peppers and husband Leon of Stacy; six grandchildren, Tina Rose and husband Terry, Adam Cannon and wife Ann all of Newport, Melissa Ballou and husband George of Morehead City, Wendi Raycroft and husband Nathan of Jacksonville, FL, Jody Peppers and wife Joyce of Davis, and Jonathan Peppers of Beaufort; ten great-grandchildren, Drew Ballou, Darious Ballou, Joshua Rose, Brooklyn Raycroft, Reese Raycroft, Kenli Peppers, Tyler Peppers, Karsyn Peppers, Noah Cannon and Jonah Cannon; and one step great-great-grandchild, Ashlyn Lewis. Also surviving are a sister, Dollie Carraway, and a brother-in-law, Tom Tosto both of South River, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-two years, Ethel Pittman Cannon, parents, William L. and Aurie Cannon, seven brothers and four sisters.

Visitation will be held 6:00 - 8:00 pm Tuesday at Munden Funeral Home.
