Johnny was born on December 4, 1957, in Morehead City, NC, to the late Robert and Georgia Mae Arthur. A dedicated Christian, Johnny's life was a testament to his strong beliefs. He was an active member of the Stacy Free Will Baptist Church, where he served faithfully as a deacon. His commitment to his faith led him to Davis First Baptist, where he continued his service as a deacon, and more recently, he attended Pilgrim’s Rest Free Will Baptist Church, where he served with joy and dedication.
Christmas held a special place in Johnny's heart; he had the most fun selecting the perfect live Christmas tree for his family and was immensely involved in church holiday programs, contributing his talents in writing, directing, and even creating props. His passion and commitment were evident in everything he did.
Johnny was also an avid sports fan, passionately supporting the Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Yankees, and the UNC Tarheels. He devoted many hours to coaching youth basketball teams through Parks and Recs and at Atlantic Elementary School where he strongly believed in the importance of mentoring young lives.
An exceptional cook, Johnny was known for his culinary skills, especially his famous fried chicken, creamed potatoes, and crab bisque. He cherished time outdoors, finding joy in fishing and exploring the mountains during his travels. Johnny kept busy with his various woodworking projects and his skilled decoy carving.
At his core, Johnny was a family man who treasured time spent with his loved ones. Whether it was taking his grandson Finn to the arcade, attending his sporting events, or coaching his basketball team, he relished every moment spent with family.
Johnny’s legacy of faith, love, and dedication will be remembered by all who knew him. Those remaining to cherish his memory are his devoted and loving wife of 45 years, Clarice Goodwin Arthur; sons, Stephen Salter (Melissa) of Royce City, TX, Gerald Salter (Monique) of Stacy, NC, Joshua Arthur (Deidre) of Stacy, NC, and Casey Arthur (Julie) of Beaufort, NC; sister, Daphne Arthur Pugh (Mervin) of Odessa, TX; grandchildren, Kayla Salter, Major Salter, Ryker Salter, and Finn Arthur; first cousin, Francis Parrish (Robbie) of Davis, NC; special cousin, Dawna Wetzel; and special girls, Cameron, Harley, and Madison Hargett-Hall.
In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by his sister, Agatha Arthur Moore.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Carteret Health Care that assisted with Mr. Johnny’s care on the 2nd and 3rd floor. The woman’s group at Pilgram’s Rest Free Will Baptist Church who cooked so many wonderful meals for their family.
