John “JL” Leamon Corbett, 81, husband, father, brother, and grandfather, passed away June 4, 2017 to go to his Heavenly home at the Crystal Coast Hospice. He was a native of Newport.
A graveside service with military honors will be held 11:00 am Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Cedar Grove Cemetery with Rev. William Stroud and Brother Bob Lowery officiating.
JL was born March 7, 1936 to the late Rock and Beulah Corbett. He served his country in the U.S. Army and honorably discharged in 1956. He was a retired longshoreman from N.C State Port Authority in Morehead City. He helped build Wildwood Free Will Baptist Church in 1967, and he has attended since its inception.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Eleanor Marie Corbett; three sons, John L. “Jay” Corbett, Jr. and wife Lynn, Roger Corbett and wife Angie, and Pat and Lori Corbett; three sisters, Irene Pringle, Jean Rhue, and Rose Clapsadl; brother, Edward Corbett, all of Newport; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Paul Salter Corbett, and brother, Pat Corbett.
