John "Jack" Michael Fennell Jr.

John "Jack" Michael Fennell Jr., 78, of Newport, passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at his home.

His memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 7th, at Munden Funeral Home. For those unable to attend, the service can be viewed on through his obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website.    (See link below for the Service Bulletin including the Order of Service.)

John, or Jack as most knew him, was born on November 15, 1942, in Darby, Pennsylvania, to the late John Michael Fennell Sr. and Mary Rush Fennell. Following high school, Jack honorably served in the United States Marine Corps. He applied the structure and commitment from the Corp to every aspect of his life. Including his role as Air Traffic Controller at Cherry Point. His abilities to problem solve, concentrate for extended periods of time, amazing coordination, and excellent communication and teamworking skills allowed him to excel in that role.

After retiring from Cherry Point, Jack enjoyed doing his favorite activities including hunting and fishing. Spending time outdoors in the peace and quiet of nature was relaxing and invigorating for him. Staying active was important to Jack, he spent quite a bit of time at the Sports Center in Carteret County where he enjoyed the activities and friendships.

He is survived by his sisters, Maureen Fennell of Sharon Hill, Pennsylvania, Joanne Ruane and husband Steve of Millsboro, Delaware, and Eileen Malloy of Newark, Delaware; 7 nieces and nephews; and 9 great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Bill Malloy.
