Johnise Winberry Culpepper, 88, of Mill Creek, North Carolina, passed away following a brief illness on Monday, June 5, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family.
Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 17th at Munden Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Graham Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the funeral service.
Johnise was born on October 27, 1937, in Mill Creek, NC, to the late Arby and Maggie Love Winberry. In 1952, she married the love of her life, Norman Culpepper, they shared 42 wonderful years together prior to his passing in 1994.
Working in the Naval Supply and Fuel Division at Cherry Point, Johnise played a crucial role in supporting the Navy's logistical operations. This division is responsible for ensuring the timely and efficient supply of essential resources, including fuel, to naval units and personnel. By contributing to this important mission, Johnise made a significant impact and helped to maintain the Navy's operational readiness. Johnise was proud of her work experience which indicated her strong work ethic, dedication, and a sense of accomplishment.
Johnise was a spiritual person who embraced her Christian faith. She lived according to the teachings and principles of Christianity, such as love, compassion, forgiveness, and service to others.
She is survived by her son, Garry Culpepper (Lek) of Mill Creek, NC; grandchildren, Jennifer Ear (Peter) of Palm Coast, FL and Alicia Culpepper and fiancé Tyler Hankinson of Sneads Ferry, NC; and great-grandchildren, Kara, Joseph (Simran), Caleb, Hailey, Zachary, Olivia, Lawson, Evan, and Kennedy.
In addition to her parents and husband, Johnise was preceded in death by her siblings, Lottie “Rowena” Jones, Elmon “Mutt” Winberry, Frances Juanita Newkirk, Florence Garner, and George Barry Winberry.
